What is Pollution?

Pollution is something harmful to the environment, animals, plants and Humans. There are five types of pollution land, air, water, sound and light. There are many people around the world who are trying to make a change by changing the law, creating inventions and groups of people are going out into the community to clean up our oceans.

Land, Air and Water Pollution.

There are three types of pollution that are affecting the environment. These are land, air and water.

Land Pollution is when people litter, or they spray toxic chemicals like pesticides on the soil. This can kill living creatures.

Air Pollution, are toxic chemicals that get into the air. You may have heard of something called smog? People get sick by this contagious dirty air. Did you know out of all the pollution, air pollution is the most dangerous one as 7 million people in the world are affected every year. Cities around the world are finding new ways to tackle air pollution.

Lastly, water pollution. It is dangerous for our animals because people throw 60 million pieces of rubbish per day that’s very sad for our animals. Why you ask? Well because they are dying.

How are our animals and people dying or getting sick?

Humans are clearly throwing litter into the sea. There are animals who are dying just because people are throwing trash into our exquisite ocean. They are harming our precious sea animals. They are also wasting water too. Did you know in the USA, up to 60% of the local water supply is used to water lawn?

What is causing our humans to get sick? Well landfills contribute to this. Landfills are piles of rubbish, toxic air such as smog fills their lungs and contaminated water causing people to die.

How are people helping the environment?

They are picking up rubbish, creating invention’s so human’s don’t get sick, people are helping the environment by cleaning up our area. What inventions do they make? E-bikes are special because that can turn carbon dioxide into fresh O2. In New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern has banned the use of plastic bags, you must now take a reusable bag to the supermarket.

There are many things you can do to help our environment so please next time you see a piece of rubbish pick it up!
