Plastic Trouble

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

Did you know the Earth is full of rubbish and it is clearly harming our animals? When people litter they throw their rubbish into the sewers, this rubbish is transported to the sea. This rubbish includes plastic bags, plastic bottles, glass and food packaging. When plastic items get washed into the sea, they clump together and form floating rubbish dumps. Plastic breaks down so slowly in water that it may never entirely disappear.

Here is an explanation of how plastic is affecting our animals because they consume the plastic and it harms or kills them. Plastic in the sea never fully disappears but only breaks down into smaller pieces.Pieces of plastic less than 5mm (0.2in) are called microplastics. Fish and birds mistake these for pieces of food and eat them.It takes time to for rubbish to decompose and landfills are clearly getting enormously big.

In my opinion I wish that people wouldn’t litter. They have to put their rubbish in the correct rubbish bin immediately! People can also use biodegradable items instead of using single use plastic such as biodegradable cups, biodegradable straws, and biodegradable brushes.Pollution is rubbish that causes animals sick and people too!!!
